The Godfather
The
Godfather is a 1972 crime film based on the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo and directed
by Francis Ford Coppola, with screenplay by Puzo and Coppola. The film stars Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall,
Diane Keaton and James Caan. The story spans ten years from late 1945
to 1955 and chronicles the life of the Corleone crime family.
The film
is greatly respected among international critics and the public and is
routinely listed as one of the greatest films
ever made. It was voted greatest film of all time by Entertainment Weekly,
and number 2 of all time in American cinema by the American Film Institute.[12]
It has consistently ranked number 1 on IMDb's Top 250.[13]
In the 2002 Sight & Sound poll of international
critics, it was ranked as the 4th best film of all time. Both The Godfather and
The Godfather Part II have been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. This is not the case
for the third installment in the "Godfather" trilogy. [1]
