Reading List:  (subject to change)

ü      Excerpts from The Movie Business Book, 3rd Edition, by Jason E. Squire, How to Read a Film:  Movies, Media, Multimedia by James Monaco, and Bordwell and Thompson’s classic text, Film Art:  An Introduction

ü    TWO additional books of the student’s choosing for ongoing independent reading assignments (one literary work that was adapted into a film for MP1; one dealing with some aspect of the film industry for MP2)

 

Film List: Individual films will be announced for each unit of study, but our course will most likely include classics such as:

  • Citizen Kane (1941)
  • Casablanca (1942)
  • Rear Window (1954)
  • High Noon (1952)
  • Shichinin no Samurai/The Seven Samurai (1956)
  • Some Like It Hot (1964)
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey (1967)
  • Jaws (1976)
  • Star Wars (1977)

Required Supplies:  Students should bring the following supplies with them EACH DAY to class IN ADDITION TO their textbook, SSR book or the book we are reading in class that day (locker passes WILL NOT be issued for any of these items):

ü      Numerous pens (blue or black) and a highlighter

ü      Film Journal:  a black composition book or one-subject notebook with lined paper

ü      Film Notebook:  A two-pocket folder with insert for 3-hole paper
