EXPECTATIONS
OF
STUDENTS
Expectations/Classroom
Behavior:
ü All students must be seated in class when the bell
rings. Administrative consequences will
accrue after the first THREE warnings for unexcused tardiness as per
school policy and will be cumulative in nature. (You will be written up on your FOURTH
unexcused tardy!)
ü
Appropriate and
respectful language and behavior towards the teacher and other students at all
times! Use of foul language or swearing,
regardless of volume, and ANY instances of derogatory or insulting behavior
toward other students or teacher, regardless of familiarity or intent will be
followed up with immediate and appropriate consequences.
ü
No food or drink in
class, except for water bottles which must be filled BEFORE class
ü
Please be respectful of
privileges like the lav pass and use only when
necessary, unless there are circumstances which you discuss with me in
advance. It is expected you will make
every attempt to use the lav BEFORE class begins
ü
Due to classroom
disruptions, academic honesty issues and the privacy concerns of other
students, the use of cell phones and/or pagers in the classroom is
STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Please be
aware that students can be contacted by the main office at any time in case of
emergency. If students keep cell
phones or pagers with them at all times, they MUST be turned OFF BEFORE the
beginning of class each day. AT NO
TIME SHOULD A STUDENT BE “CHECKING” HIS/HER PHONE OR PAGER IN THE
CLASSROOM.

Homework*:
ü
Any assigned homework is
due AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS (no exceptions)
ü
Homework assignments are
generally 20 points each, and will consist of about 20% of the marking period
grade.
ü
Late homework may be
accepted in certain cases for half of the credit of the original
assignment. Late homework will NOT be
accepted if it is gone over in class on its due date
**Please
Note:
Computer malfunctions,
printer problems and disk disasters have increasingly become the “dog ate my
homework” of modern education. Please be
sure to complete, type and save ANY assignment that is
due in a typed final form well in advance of its due date to avoid these types
of problems. However, as I understand
that last-minute problems do sometimes arise, please
be sure to have a handwritten draft of the completed assignment that is due in order to get credit for completion of
the assignment. By planning ahead and
using the technological resources available at school, students should not
expect to have this kind of issue arise more than once in the year.
Late Work:
Essays and other projects will be penalized at a rate of
minus ten (-10) percentage points per day, to a maximum of -30 percentage points after THREE DAYS, after
which late assignments WILL NOT be accepted.

Online Grades and Handouts: Students can access Film Study assignments and their averages
at any time during the marking period using their school computer username and
password. Please be aware that not all
grades may be displayed, and that grading categories are weighted as described
above, and grades may not be completely current with work that has or has not
been handed in, or papers that are in the process of being graded. If you have any questions about a grade,
please email it to me through the WITS system, then
follow up with me in class.
Handouts and notes will often be
available for students online through WITS, so please be sure to check for
assignments if and when you are absent from school.

Plagiarism/Cheating: Plagiarism is taking
credit for ideas or work that is not your own.
Plagiarism and cheating can take many forms and are serious academic and
moral violations. If you plagiarize
or cheat in ANY SHAPE OR FORM (copying another student’s homework, glancing
at another student’s paper for an answer on a test, using internet summaries to
complete assignments for a book you have not read, using words or phrases
directly from an internet or other source in an essay or paper without citing
the source), you and any other student involved will receive NO CREDIT for the
assignment and you may be at risk of failing the course. In addition, your parents will be notified
and a note may be placed in your guidance file for future reference. This is a VERY serious offense. Please do not compromise your integrity or
your reputation!
