FILM STUDY
ACTOR ANALYSIS
Project: You
will be choosing an actor whose performances and choice of film projects you
will analyze through at least three different movies, representing different
genres and/or different stages in the actor’s career.
Process:
- Choose
an actor who you admire or find to be intriguing.
- Use
imdb.com to print out the actor’s filmography
(be sure to use the acting filmography, not
directing or producing)
- Look
through the list of films to choose at least THREE which represent
different genres or different types of performances AND different stages
in the actor’s career (in general, you should shoot for one film from the
very BEGINNING of the actor’s career, possibly the first film he/she ever
acted in; one from the MIDDLE of the actor’s career, and one of the most
RECENT films the actor has performed in).
The actual time span between each film will vary, depending on the
age and career length of the actor you choose.
- As you
are choosing the films through which you will analyze this actor, at least
TWO of the choices should be films that you HAVE NOT YET SEEN. You may use one (or more) films that you
have already seen in your analysis, but you must watch them again in order
to write your final paper.
- Over
the course of the next few weeks, WATCH each film that you will be using, paying particular attention to the acting in relation
to the genre and the rest of the film, taking detailed notes on the
enclosed sheets.
- When
you have completed at least THREE films and the notes sheet for each, you
will be composing your analysis paper.
We will read a few models in class before this stage begins.
