MYH Antibody
Background: Myosins consist of a large family of motor proteins that interact with the actin filament to generate contractile force. These large structural proteins (~220 kDa) can be grouped into ~20 classes in eukaryotes on the basis of their sequences in the ATP-hydrolyzing domains. Each myosin assembly contains a pair of myosin heavy chain (MYH) and two pairs of myosin light chain (MYL). At least 10 MYH isoforms have been described in mammalian striated, smooth, and non-muscle cells. For instance, the MYH1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 13 genes encode the skeletal muscle isoforms whereas the MYH6 and MYH7 encode the cardiac muscle isoforms. MYH11 encodes the smooth muscle isoform. MYH9, 10, and 14 encode the non-muscle isoforms.
Antibody Description: The
polyclonal antibody was produced by immunizing goats with rabbit muscle MYH
proteins. The MYH antibody strongly recognizes the skeletal and cardiac muscle
isoforms with some affinity for the non-muscle isoforms. Reactivity against the
smooth muscle isoform has not been characterized. The product is for research
use only.
