Product Description: Inosine-5′-monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) is a purine metabolic enzyme catalyzing the first and rate-limiting step towards the synthesis of guanosine triphosphate (GTP). IMPDH converts inosine monophosphate (IMP) to xanthosine monophosphate (XMP) using NAD+ as a cofactor, providing precursors for DNA and RNA bioysynthesis. The protein has an additional role as a DNA-binding transcriptional repressor. Since IMPDHs are known to exhibit species-specific kinetic properties and inhibitor sensitivities, the enzymes have been the target of antiviral, antibacterial and anticancer therapeutics. The measurement of IMPDH activity thus serves as a useful tool for drug design and screening. The IMPDH assay is based on the reduction of the tetrazolium salt INT in a NADH-coupled enzymatic reaction to INT-formazan. The intensity of the red color formed is increased in the presence of increased IMPDH activity. The assay solution should be stored
in aliquots at -80ºC. The product is for research and diagnostic applications.
