Product Description: Creatine kinase (CK) catalyzes the reversible conversion between creatine and phosphocreatine (PCr), which is coupled
to the equilibrium between ATP and ADP in the cytosol and mitochondria, constituting an important intracellular energy shuttling system mediated
by mitochondrial and cytosolic CK isoforms. While mitochondrial CK forms PCr from mitochondrial ATP, cytosolic CK, using PCr, regenerates ATP
consumed in metabolic reactions and mechanical work. CK is thus an important enzyme for tissues that utilize ATP rapidly. There are five different
CK isoforms: three cytosolic (CK-MM, CK-BB and CK-MB) and two mitochondrial (ubiquitous and sarcomeric), which exhibit differential tissue
distribution. Clinically, assay of serum CK level is utilized in the diagnosis and monitoring of myocardial infarction, myopathies and
cerebrovascular accidents. Serum CK activity may exhibit an inverse relationship with thyroid activity. The sensitive enzyme activity assay kit can
measure CK activity present in serum/plasma and crude cell/tissue extracts. Luciferase-based detection of ATP produced by CK reaction allows
fast, sensitive and quantitative assay of total CK activity. Measurement of ATP requires a luminometer or scintillation counter. Kit components are
stable for many years if stored and handled properly.
