Professional Interest Concept Map  (Summary available in MS Word)

Currently employed in the Affirmative Action department here at the University, I hope to use my Informatics degree to provide more in-depth analysis with the intention of achieving and excelling the University’s Affirmative Action goals.  I intend to accomplish this by further studying Data Mining and then apply it to Affirmative Action data for greater analysis and forecasting trends.  This data that is required is highly sensitive information and requires confidentiality and security.  This topic touches upon Information Ethics.

Also, in my department, not all users who need access to the data and information gleaned from it are technologically savvy. I also hope to study Systems Analysis and Information Retrieval Systems in greater detail.  I believe these subjects will help me create portals that will allow these users easy access to the data and reports that I generate.  Once again, the topic of confidential information comes into play recognizing that any Information Retrieval System I create will have to incorporate security at some level.

Lastly, I would also like to pursue non-Informatics subjects of Discrimination Law and Affirmative Action requirements and procedures as part of my degree.  I believe knowledge in these areas will assist me in understanding the data that I’m working with.
