USING THE INTERNET TO TEACH WRITINGTO ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
Introduction This webquest was developed for students in a Master's in Second Language Education program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. The purpose of the webquest is to introduce pre-service and in-service teachers to three ways to use the Internet as a tool for providing an authentic audience for ESL/EFL writers: publishing, corresponding and collaborating. Task Participants in the webquest will use Internet resources to develop a lesson plan which encourages student writing by providing an authentic audience. The L2 learners who will use the activity developed should be from middle school age to adult and at an intermediate level of language proficiency. Process Participants will visit websites in three categories: publishing, corresponding and collaborating. They will take notes on information from those sites they think would be useful in designing an activity for their students. Then they will use a teacher designed handout as a basis for creating a lesson plan for their students. The culminating activity on the conclusion page is to share their lesson plans with other participants in the webquest who chose the same age group of learners. Evaluation The activity designed as a result of the webquest will be scored by a rubric. |
