      What is a Healthy Home?

Here is how third graders at the Stanley Makowski Early Childhood Center of Buffalo answered this question:

“It is important to keep your home clean because dirt can cause germs to spread.  Germs and bacteria can cause illness.” (Louis De Carl, 36p)

“It is especially important for me to dust and vacuum often because I have asthma.  The air in my house needs to be as clean as possible to avoid an attack.” (Caitlyn Matteliano, 36p)

“It is important to have a clean home because clean homes are healthy homes.  You should wash surfaces with hot water and soap.  You should vacuum and sweep floors to avoid the spreading of germs.” (Justin Patton, 36p)

“You can keep your house healthy by cleaning up the dust and vacuum the floor.  You should take the toys off the floor.  You should clean up garbage off the floor.  Another thing how you can keep your house safe is put one plug in at a time.  You should get your house checked for lead.  Keep electric things away from water.” (Chynna C. Moore, 27t)

“There are many things I can do to keep my house healthy.  I will dust because my sister is allergic to dust.  I can tell people not to smoke in the house…  People should check their smoke alarms 2 times a year just to make sure it works.  You should pick up garbage around your house.  People should fix anything that needs to be fixed in your house…” (Cariann Dabek, 29t)

“You should put out the garbage.  You can make sure you keep your house clean.  Make sure that you check fire alarms every ten months.” (Lindsey Hughes, 36t)

“A healthy home is love.  A healthy home is a clean home.  A healthy home is a family’s job.” (Lynda Bobb, 35p)

“A healthy home has a smoke detector to keep the family safe from fire.  It has rules for calling 911 if there is an emergency.  It has a fire extinguisher to put out fires.” (Larry Clark, 35p)

“A healthy home is a safe home.  Keep things off the stairs so that you don’t fall.  You need a smoke detector and good batteries… My home is a healthy home and I am happy about that!” (Sean Ostrowski, 35p)

“The yard will be clean and there will be no paper on the ground.  The grass will be cut and cars will be washed.  It is important to have a healthy home so when friends come over they will want to come again.” (LaMarrio Pannell, 35p)

“If you see animals do not touch them or bring them into your house.  Take the garbage out.  If you don’t your house will stink.” (Jazmin Daniels, 35p)
