Joseph Wanta
b.October 28, 1863 in Poland (discharge papers) / Germany (death certificate)[
Danzig, family notes] // d. November 19, 1925 at 2:30pm of mitral insufficiency
of 13 mos. duration, in Milwaukee, WI at 1021 Humboldt St., 13th Ward. Burial
was at Holy Cross Cemetary Nov. 23, 1925. The Death certificate informant
was Ignac Wanta (brother?) of the same address. Jospeh Wanta had served
as a private of Company B, 4th Regiment, Wisconsin National Guard, enrolled
March 5, 1887 and was honorably discharged January 8, 1890. His Certificate
of Honorable Discharge lists him as 5'7" tall, fair complexion, brown
eyes, brown hair, and by occupation a carpenter. According to the death certificate
Jospeh Wanta was the son of Lawrence Wanta (Wantz?)
and Paline Buchman. Joseph Wanta is listed in
the Milwaukee City Directory of 1896 as residing at 840 Arlington Pl, occupation
Boxmaker. In the 1897 Milwaukee City Directory he is listed as residing at
322 Hamilton, occupation Carpenter. In the 1899 Directory he is listed as
residing at 940 Pulaski, occupation Laborer. [Brothers Ignac and John?] Family
legend says Joseph came to U.S. with his parents at about age 3 [abt. 1864?]
and that family name was changed to Wanta from Wantz about the time he entered

1918 at Milwaukee (released from active duty abt. 1919) and was Honorably
Discharged 30-Sep-1921 from the US Naval Reserve Force.
Vincent b.18-Jul-1899, baptised at St. Hedwig RC Church Milwaukee
on 23-Jul, 1899 . Known as 'Bill', signed his name 'William'. [Died
at about 45 yr., brain tumor. Married Marie? Children Dicky and Patty]
Gertrude [died at abt. 18 yr.] She is pictured
as a member of the wedding party of her brother Jospeh R. and Anastasia Pietrzak
in November 1920.
