Product Positioning Matrix

Research on breakthrough products like the Ipod has led to an understanding of how to position a product to maximize its success in the marketplace.

Products that are perceived to fit in the top right of the matrix are more likely to be successful breakthrough products in the current market. Examples include:

Use the matrix to position various precdents in comparison to a design in development.

Value Opportunities Matrix

The VOM is a useful tool to evaluate how a product design addresses key value opportunities. It can be used to score a design or to compare existing products.
