GERARD FLORIANO

Currently in his tenth season as Music Director of the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra, Gerard Floriano brings an extensive array of conducting experience to the podium. A native of Orchard Park, Mr. Floriano earned his B.A. from SUNY at Geneseo and Masters and Doctor of Music Arts from the Eastman School of Music. While at Eastman, he served as the Associate Conductor of the Eastman Philharmonic as well as the Assistant Conductor of the Eastman Opera Theatre, where his conducting credits include The Marriage of Figaro, Rligoletto, and La Boheme. He has been the Director of Choral Activities at Memphis State University, and the Conducting Assistant to John Nelson with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and at the Caramoor Festival.

Mr. Floriano presently maintains an active guest-conducting calendar. Recent guest-engagements have included performances with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra, and the Opera Theatre of Rochester, as well as Orchard Park Symphony.

Dr. Floriano currently has the position of Assistant Professor of Conducting and Ensembles in the School of Fine Arts at the University of NY at Geneseo. He resides in Rochester, NY with his wife, Joan, and children Katherine, Michael and Maria.
