Welcome to the University
at Buffalo’s Pan-Am 2001 web site. It serves several purposes: by
listing the University’s unique resources that spotlight the Pan-American
Exposition of 1901, by providing information regarding the University’s
important presence at the Exposition, and by informing the school body,
as well as the public, of the wide range of activities taking place within
the campus community during 2000/2001 to commemorate the Exposition’s centennial
celebration.
Most significantly, the Pan-Am
2001 project will serve as a means for developing further interdisciplinary
collaboration within the University and the Buffalo community. Here
one can find primary source materials from the University Library and Archives,
such as graphics and first-hand interviews of those who attended the 1901
Exposition, as well as a calendar of University events and UB course listings
that are utilizing the Pan-American Exposition as subject matter.
In particular, I would like to point you to the University’s development
of a three-dimensional model of the Exposition that is being created in
our Media Studies department by our own students.
Our intention is to celebrate
both the historic event and the opportunities that the spirit of the Exposition
brings. I hope you will join the University at Buffalo and our community
in commemorating the Pan-American Exposition’s centennial and a longstanding
commitment of the University at Buffalo to the people of Western New York.
