Early English Books Online (EEBO) (ProQuest)
From the first book published in English through 1700, EEBO will provide the full texts of over 125,000 titles listed in Pollard & Redgrave's Short-Title Catalogue (1475-1640), Wing's Short-Title Catalogue (1641-1700), and the Thomason Tracts (1640-1661). Titles in the collection are presented as online images, as well as downloadable PDF documents. Not all 125,000 books are yet included.

The Folger Shakespeare Library
The collections focus on British and European literary, cultural, political, religious, and social history from the fifteenth through the eighteenth centuries, with particular strength in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Contains one of the largest collections of STC (1475-1640) and WING (1641-1700) books in the world, with about 55,000 volumes, including broadsides. The Shakespeare Collection contains 229 Quarto editions of the plays and poems, 79 copies of the First Folio, 118 copies of the Second, Third, and Fourth Folios, and about 7,000 other editions of Shakespeare's works, from the Rowe 1709 to the latest editions. Early Modern English Dictionary
This site from the University of Toronto provides a search engine to several electronic early modern English dictionaries. Designed to make accessible the English-language content of bilingual (English and other languages) and monolingual (English-only) dictionaries, glossaries, grammars, and encyclopedias published in England from 1500 to 1660.

Middle English Dictionary
Provides a comprehensive analysis of lexicon and usage for the period 1100-1500, based on the analysis of a collection of over three million citation slips. Part of the Middle English Compendium, which also provides access to a HyperBibliography and the Corpus of Middle English Prose and Verse.

Oxford English Dictionary
Provides the history and development of English words through the last 800 years.
